Obituary of Margaret Wood BROOKER
February 11, 1923 – Calgary, Alberta
September 5, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Margaret W. Brooker took her first breath of Heaven on Friday, September 5, 2014.
Margaret was a devoted and inspirational mother to her two children, Arthur Brooker and Kathleen (Kip) Pritchard. She cherished her four grandchildren, “adopted” granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her brother Jim Bailie and sister Kathleen (Gordon) Anderson. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.
Baptized as an infant in Grace Presbyterian Church, Margaret’s life’s journey flourished within, and beyond its beautiful walls. The Young Women’s Missionary Society became her passion at the age of 19 and she was instrumental in changing the name to Grace Bethany, eventually receiving an Honourary Life Membership. Margaret served as a faithful Elder at Grace Church, a great blessing to her and others as she ministered to the Church family she deeply loved.
Margaret’s vocational skills as an administrative secretary served her family well. Her work at the Religious Education Council of Alberta and her administrative position with Dr. James Fowler brought the greatest vocational satisfaction, the latter enabling her to participate in the naming of the James Fowler High School.
Margaret’s life was an amazing display of God’s provision, mercy and grace. Her heart and hands were open to all. Her life’s treasure-chest glitters with precious jewels: friendships she has cherished and polished regularly through cups of tea, deeds of kindness, encouragement notes or prayer.
Margaret now rests safely in God’s Everlasting Arms. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W.) on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Grace Bethany WMS group at Grace Presbyterian Church.
In living memory of Margaret Brooker, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
