Obituary of Betty Marlene Jones
December 14, 1945 – Belleville, Ontario
March 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Betty Jones, beloved wife of Edward Kenneth, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the age of 78 years.
Betty was born December 14, 1945, to Orval and Marjorie Cooney, the only girl of three siblings. She was raised in Trenton, ON, where she excelled in her studies. As a young woman, Betty joined the local office of British firm, Pyrotenax, where she was an assistant to top executives. Betty met her husband, Edward, at her father’s plumbing company; they married on February 8, 1964, and happily spent fifty years together. She went on to have a career in real estate, where she started one of the first Century 21 franchises in Trenton—the first of her many entrepreneurial pursuits. In 1966, their family became complete with the birth of their son, Edward Jr. When the family moved to Calgary in 1980, Betty started a property management company called Jones & Company, which managed local condominium projects. Betty, Edward Sr., and Edward Jr. worked closely together to build and sell several businesses and were grateful to spend many enjoyable hours with each other. She was an active and spirited member of the Silver Threads senior group in Calgary’s Inglewood community, where she developed many friendships. An enthusiastic baker, family and friends will fondly remember Betty’s butter tarts and other delicious treats.
Upon Edward Sr.’s death in 2014, Betty continued to support Edward Jr. in the family business, before moving back to Trenton in 2018 to spend quality time with her brothers. She returned to Calgary in 2023 and her last year was spent at the Chateau Renoir, where she made numerous new friends and enjoyed countless happy rounds of cards and bingo.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her son Edward Jr. (Alison) of Calgary, brothers, Bill (Carrie) and Brian (Linda) of Trenton; sister-in-law Linda (Ian) Watkins of Grafton, ON, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and her good buddy, grand-puppy Lola.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Agape Hospice in Calgary, whose care provided solace and comfort to Betty and the family during her final days.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. A service will be held in Trenton at a later date.
