Obituary of David Crosbie Grierson

May 18, 1944 – Calgary, Alberta

March 31, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Grierson of Calgary, AB, at the age of 79 years. He passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Dave is survived by his wife Maureen, son Cameron (Josephine Scott), daughter Shelley (Jan), and grandchildren Emily, Avery, and Riley Rozek. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy (Fred) Blunden, his brother-in-law Doug (Audrey) Sloan, and several nieces and nephews.

Dave was born to David and Isabella Grierson in Calgary, AB, where he was raised and lived for the majority of his life. He met Maureen in the early 1960s. They were married for 57 years, during which time they raised two children, Cameron and Shelley.

He earned his Certified Management Accountant designation in 1972. He worked in industry for several years and then became a respected educator at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Throughout his twenty-six years at SAIT, he created the highly esteemed Accelerated Accounting program and eventually became the head of the Business department before moving into International Education and spearheading relations with industries throughout Russia and the former Soviet Union.

In retirement, Dave took immense joy in his grandchildren, taking them to Flames games, guiding their development, watching them participate in their activities, and achieving their respective accomplishments. Those years were also filled with travelling the world, wintering in Southern California, summering in Fairmont Hot Springs, golfing year-round, marshalling at the Kananaskis Country Golf Course, and exploring many wineries.

During those years, he also enjoyed helping and guiding many people with their professional and business challenges at all stages of their careers, while simultaneously continuing to work as a consultant and tax accountant through his company CAMTiC. He was particularly generous in helping seniors navigate their financial matters, which gave him great pleasure.

Dave was a great friend, advisor, and mentor. He will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humour, his kindness, courage, generosity, charisma, and sense of adventure; but, most of all, for his love of family and his beloved wife.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
