Obituary of Cyril Thomas Mullane

April 19, 1934 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

April 7, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Cyril T. Mullane, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024, 12 days shy of his 90th birthday.

Born and raised in Halifax to Mary Gertrude and Thomas Cyril Mullane, he graduated from Dalhousie with a law degree while serving in the army reserve. He married the love of his life, Mary Kathleen (nee Murphy). With a newborn son in hand, they travelled to Calgary in 1959 where he started a distinguished career as a corporate lawyer. After serving for the government in Ottawa and Edmonton, he returned to the Calgary oil patch in 1980. He retired in 1992 to pursue winters in Mesa, AZ, and to slice, hook, and duff a golf ball.

He is survived by his wife Mary Kathleen, his brothers, Terry (Anne) and Dennis (Doreen); sister-in-law Claire Murphy, his seven children, Sean (Pam), Terry (Margaret), Tom (Sarah), Mary (Gerry), Kevin (Sandi), Erin (Alana), and Shannon (Rick); as well as nineteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Doug, sister-in-law Louise, and brother-in-law Charles Murphy. He will also be fondly remembered by many friends, nieces, nephews, and former work associates.

He was an amazingly funny, kind-hearted family man with a fierce intellect and the utmost integrity. Dad cheered for the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved people and telling their stories.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
