Obituary of Joan Anne Sikora
June 29, 1934 - Winnipeg, Manitoba
April 12, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Joan Sikora (nee Seminchuk), beloved wife of Louis Sikora of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the age of 89 years.
Joan was born in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, MB, on June 29, 1934, to parents, Paul and Nellie Seminchuk, and a few years later her brother Ted was born. In 1946 the family moved to Calgary which became their permanent home.
Joan married her lifelong love, Lou, on August 18, 1956. Soon after starting a family, they purchased their home in Brentwood. Many of her fondest memories were made while living in the Triwood community. She always felt blessed to have raised her family in such a vibrant sports community with so many special friends and neighbours.
At the forefront of Joan’s life were her Catholic faith, family, and lifelong friends. She was a board member of the LAMDA Society for several years, assisting underprivileged adults with mental illness. She volunteered at St. Luke’s Catholic Church for many ministries with her favourite activity being the annual Rummage Sale.
She enjoyed gardening, golfing, dancing, and socializing over a drink and cards. Joan loved baking and sharing her special treats. In her retirement, she enjoyed many summers with family and friends at the family cottage in Sandpoint, Idaho, where you could always find her in the garden with a big smile on her face talking in Ukrainian with her 4-legged buddies.
Joan will be dearly missed by her husband, Lou, of sixty-seven years, her sons, Gary and Ron (Tina); and her grandchildren, Tristan (Cassidy), Nicole (Matthew), Nathan, Amy (Timothy), Kara (Sean), and Luke. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Ted, her son Neil, and her two grandchildren, Matthew and Alexander.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
