Obituary of Agatha Geertruida Maria Dewit

On Friday, April 12, 2024, Agatha “Aggie” Geertruida Maria Dewit (nee Mooij) passed away at 92 years of age. Much loved by friends and family alike, Aggie lived an active and vibrant life up until her last months.
Aggie, or Mom/Oma as she was lovingly known, was born September 15, 1931 in Hoorn, North Holland, Netherlands. She married her husband Nick in 1954 and moved to Calgary 10 days after their wedding, making the city their forever home. Aggie worked several jobs before founding Dewit’s Landscaping with her husband in 1964. They grew the business to include a nursery and small tree farm over the next 30 years before retiring to southwest Calgary in 1995. Aggie was a proud member of the Dutch Canadian community in Calgary. One of her proudest moments came when the Dutch Canadian Choir was asked to sing in the opening ceremonies for the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
In 2017, Aggie and Nick moved to Revera/Venvi Evergreen where she thrived, making several dear friends and enjoying activities, parties, and outings. Aggie enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, bowling, lively trips to the casino, and spending time with her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all.
Aggie is survived by her sister Corry; children Annet (Mark), John (Sheryl), Pat, and Ray (Catherine); grandchildren Colin (Kelsi), Jordan, Matthew, Mark (Courtney), Emma, Katie, Megan (Chad), Madeline, and Kimberly; and great-grandchildren Owen, William, Austin, Clark, Wyatt, and Evelyn. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years Nicolaas; parents Johannes and Anna Mooij; siblings Ton, Henk, and Jan; and numerous family members in Holland.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
