Obituary of Gerald George Hunter

February 28, 1970 – Calgary, Alberta

April 13, 2024 – Tsuut’ina, Alberta

Gerry was called home by our Creator on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 3:28 p.m., at the age of 54 years, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born at the Calgary General Hospital.

Gerry had two homes: Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda. He had the utmost respect for both cultures and carried the teachings with pride. He was a Sundancer; he also loved God and held faith in Jesus.

Gerry loved dancing traditionally at powwows and in his teenage years, he loved to perform breakdance. He was a very skilled artist and craftsman.

Gerry is survived by his only child, Kalena Soosay; son-in-law, Jimmy Alook; grandsons, Arion, Samuel, and Kalel; his brother, Roderick Hunter (Emily); sisters, Tina Jacobs, Colleen Good Eagle, Cynthia Hunter, and Wanda Hunter; uncle, Adrian (Shenisha) Hunter; aunties, Virginia Hunter, Jean (Joe) Hunter, Vicky Hunter, Audrey (Jerry) Hunter, Lois Hunter; nephews, Anders, Rod T. Chic (Vanessa), Lyndon (Mel), Samuel, Dustin (Kari Yellowsun), Benji, Jesse (Tonia Gordon), Roger (Merissa Labelle), Sky, Denver Jacobs, Desi Ear/Snow, Marty Starlight, Chris Gooder, and Dakoda Gooder; nieces, Shanda (Chris Pegram), Nadine, Lydia, Amy (Kirby Beaver), Cheyanne, Crystal Patton (Shaun), and Beverly Bain (Earl). He is also remembered by the Hunter, Onespot, Crane, Starlight, Dodginghorse, Crowchief, Wesley, Ear, Kaquitts, Twoyoungman, House, Daniels, Dixon, and Lefthand families. Gerry was predeceased by his wife, Cynthia Beaver; parents, George Heavenfire and Violet Hunter; his paternal grandparents, George Crane and Mary Onespot; maternal grandparents, Matthew Hunter and Agnes Hunter (nee Wesley); his step-grandmother, Elizabeth Hunter; brothers, Lloyd, Menard, and Tommy; sisters, Patsy, Florence, and Peggy; brothers-in-law, Nelson Jacobs, Phillip Goodeagle, and Michael Goodeagle; nephews, Cameron, Kelly, Trent and Randy; nieces, Sandra, Tammy and Kyleen; and grandnephews, Garret, Christian, William and Diego.

Wake Services will be held at the residence of Tina Jacobs (2499A Highway #22, Tsuut'ina, AB) on Saturday, April 20, 2024, and Sunday, April 21, 2024. Funeral Services will be held at Bearspaw Youth Centre (Mînî Thnî, AB) on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Wesley Cemetery (Mînî Thnî, AB).
