Obituary of Brian Killick House
May 13, 1957 – Calgary, Alberta
April 17, 2024 – Canmore, Alberta
Brian House was called home by our Creator on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the age of 66 years.
Brian was a quiet, humble man who lived a humble, quiet life. He was the proud grandson of John House and Sheila Rain House, of Kiska Waptan, and Peter Poucette and Jenny Cecil Poucette, of Mînî Thnî, and the nephew of the late Joe Poucette, a member of the Winnipeg Rifles in WWII, who was a casualty of war.
He grew up in Morley and received his education from Mînî Thnî Residential Day School. In the 1980s he worked as a maintenance worker at the Stoney Medicine Lodge Treatment Center, and in the 1990s he worked as a caretaker at the Stoney Park Buffalo Paddock, taking over the position from his late older brother, Donald House.
Although Brian was a private person, he had a love of the outdoors, including hunting, camping, and driving to the Kootenay Plains Sundances every summer. He loved fastball and his passion for art was evident in his pencil drawings. He truly valued his Stoney culture and traditions.
Brian is survived by his children, Brian House Jr., Hilary Brown, and Savanah Brown; his nine grandchildren, Shania (Arland), Taylor (Danica), Kelmia (Jamie), Jordan, Autumn, Kalub, Zachary, Jakub, and Jace; and his three great-grandchildren, Azariah, Jayzen, Taylen, and one more to arrive in June. He is also survived by his adopted daughters, Linda Twoyoungmen and Vina Hunter; his siblings, Evelyn (Jeff) House, Virginia House, Tater (Dixie) House, and Jerry Red Bear (Ruby); and his cousins, Tina Fox, Vivian Hunter, Michael Hunter, Yogi Dixon, Tyrone Hunter, Winston Poucette, Clint Hunter, Yvonne House, Lily Dixon, Marvin Bigstoney, Florence Cutarm, Elvis Cutarm, and Martin Deschamps; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We apologize if we have missed anyone.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Killick House (1968) and Cora House (2003); his siblings, Jake House (1977), Clarence House (1981), Wally House (1982), Killian House (1984), Donald House (1991), and his infant sister Linda Marie House; his nephews, Shaun Hunter (1990), Jarrod Hunter (2017), Terry House (2021), and Leland Wesley (2004); and his nieces, Crystaline Wesley (1994), Abiliene Hunter (1997), Tylena House (2015), Lacey House (2021), and Hayley Twoyoungmen (2022); his aunties, Annie Hunter (1982), and Emma Cutarm of Hobbema; his uncles, Noah Poucette, Felix Poucette (2008), Peter Poucette Jr., Victor Cutarm, and Edward Cutarm of Hobbema.
