Condolences
George
George and I and our families came to Canada in 1981 and 82.We didn’t know each other before then but we’ve been good friends and neighbours ever since. Our kids grew up together. We’re talking 42 years, the best part of half a century.
He and I were work colleagues, in the same firm, for many years until the boom-and-bust nature of the oil and gas industry parted our professional ways. But we still lived just down the road from each other and so our social lives continued nevertheless.
George’s outgoing personality made him a popular and valuable addition to any gathering. At house-parties, pub nights, or sat around the campfire he was in his element. From his legendary and extensive repertoire of songs, odes, ditties, jokes and anecdotes he could effortlessly retrieve one, just right for the moment, from the dusty nooks and crannies of days long gone.
Many of his stories were of his days in the Hartlepool contingent of the Boys Brigade. As a lad, then as a leader of other lads, as a young man and as a player for the Boys Brigade Old Boys rugby team. It’s no stretch to say that the Boys Brigade had a major influence in how he conducted his life as a young man, as a responsible adult and as a great family man.
The motto of the Boys Brigade is Steadfast and Sure.
Steadfast and Sure.
That was our George and we’ll miss him.
Harry and Barbara and family.
Our family has very fond memories of George, his smile, his humour and his patience to indulge in many conversations with Kris Marshall, over who knows what? Sadly we are not able to attend today, deepest condolences to the family and the biggest hugs to Eileen, Chris and Ian.
My thoughts are with you all today. Sorry that I can't be there.
I have nothing but fond memories of working with George at Colt Engineering.
Eileen,
We send our deepest condolences to you and your family following the loss of your beloved husband George.

Eileen,
Dawn and I want to extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family at this time. We have some very happy memories of Lodge Ladies nights and other functions where your smiling faces lit up the room. George's hand extended in friendship was always a hand of warm brotherly love. I will miss him at the meetings.
Hugs and condolences

Out thoughts are with you all, especially today. We are so sorry that we can't be there.
We all have many memories of George over the years. He once helped me with a school poetry assignment ( a long time ago) which turned into a quite a comedy and we'll never forget our swim in the North Sea, where we all had ' brain freeze '
George was a huge part of our big family even though physical miles separated us. He was a very special Brother in Law and will be greatly missed by us all.
Eileen, Our deepest heartfelt condolences for the loss of your beloved husband, George.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Thinking of you all at this sad time . Remembering George as a good friend and a good Brother-in-law. I always enjoyed his company, lots of laughter and good advice, along with a beer or two.
Another pillar of our extended family gone too soon. Years of memories to remember him by. Sending Love and Prayers to all. Rest In Peace George. See you on the other side.

I only worked with George here in Calgary and that was many decades ago. He always encouraged me to aim higher and I appreciated that. He had a generous, welcoming social air and I am sure is missed by family and friends.
My fondest memory of George. Guy and I returned from our incredible honeymoon to arrive home to the flood. George came by to see what he could do to help. I was in shock running from one task to another without much of a plan. George said, "Don't worry about the house and the stuff. It's being handled. Your job is to make a home." It was grounding and guided many of my decisions from there. Kind and wise.
David Merralls,
Where to begin? George smiling ruefully with that glint in his eye as another "interesting" turn of events in the oil and gas game unfolded!
To have George on our project was to have a wingman that allowed us to succeed and excel. I'm sure he's up there now sorting things out for the boss.....
As a friend outside of work and into retirement was to meet up with him to joke, smile, complain and listen to his common sense opinions and good counsel, [also to eat and drink beer at the Cattle Baron or Earl's :)].
George we already miss you dearly, as will those you touched in your other walks through this life.
I can easily see George with a mischievous grin, twinkle in his eyes and a laugh. One of my favorite memories was a trip to Jasper bringing together the Lister crew and the Smiths. George was always welcoming and warm and I am grateful for the friendship he and Eileen shared with my parents. Much love to all of the family. Big hugs Eileen, Chris and Ian. We are thinking of you and holding you in our hearts.

Sorry to hear of George passing. Worked with him a long time ago and will remember him checking to see if we were working or not.

His smile and rosy cheeks always made me want to give him a big hug when i saw him. His wit and bad dad jokes made me want to slug him in the arm and roll my eyes!!!! Thank you George for being such an amazing father to my brother in law. He inherited your sense of humour that has turned him into a wonderful dad to his girls. You will be forever cherished to the Smiths and never will we forget the many laughs and visits over the years. Cheers to a sweet man with a big heart and lovely soul
