Obituary of Robert Wallace Jones

Robert “Bob” Wallace Jones of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the age of 69 years.

Bob was born in Stratford, ON, on July 10, 1954. He had a passion for sports throughout his school years and excelled in hockey and football.

Bob married Linda Barkley in Stratford in November of 1976, and they packed their van and drove west, to begin a new life in Cochrane, where they both resided until their respective passings.

He started his career in corrections in 1978 and spent time working at the Bow River Correctional Facility, the Calgary Remand Center and the Calgary Correctional Center. Bob would go on to spend 36 years working within corrections in Alberta and retired in 2014, having made many long friendships within the corrections community.

Throughout his adult years, he displayed a passion for volunteering and giving his time to neighbours and friends. Locally, he volunteered for the Cochrane Activettes, Helping Hands, and Cochrane Little League baseball.

Bob was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman. He took great pleasure in annual hunting trips with friends to the Porcupine Hills. He fostered a love of the outdoors in his sons, which they continue to pass on to their own children.

Bob is survived by his two adult sons, David (Kristian) Jones of Calgary and Mike Jones of Sundre, AB. Bob is also survived by his sister Irene McCann (Bruce McCann) and family; and his grandchildren, Atticus, Sawyer, Isaac, and Adelaide.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Linda, and his parents, Wallace and Lillian.

Bob’s family would like to thank his good friends Mac and Diane Parkin for their countless kindnesses and support.
