Obituary of Neil Rempel
January 18, 1936 – Lost River, Saskatchewan
April 19, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
With great sadness, we mourn the passing of Cornelius “Neil” Rempel, at the age of 88 years. Neil left us on Friday, April 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased in 2012 by his wife of 47 years, Patricia. Neil and Patricia are survived by their son Dave, daughter-in-law Carolyn, and grandchildren, Jake and Amanda.
Neil was born in 1936 near Lost River, approximately 240 km NE of Saskatoon. He was the youngest of ten children and moved with some of his brothers to western Alberta in the early 1950s. Neil later settled in Calgary in the mid-1960s, where he married Patricia.
He was an expert mechanic all his life, always repairing things or building new creations from spare parts. Neil loved spending time with his grandchildren, including his “adopted” grandkids, Dominique and Dannika. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, and birdwatching. As a young adult, he was a rifle marksman and was always tough to beat in games involving accuracy, such as bowling or darts. For many years, he enjoyed following the Calgary Stampeders and Flames.
A Celebration of Neil’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek Hospitality Centre, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Inurnment will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Lakeview Cemetery (775 Lower Bench Road, Penticton, BC).
