April 24, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our family member and friend, Gord (Gordon) Vaughn Macaulay. Gord fought a long battle with cancer and passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, with family and friends by his side.

Gord was the oldest of five children. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Macaulay (15), brother Andrew Macaulay (42), mother Mary Berger (83), father Gordon Macaulay Sr. (91), and his niece Shannel Rogers (34).

Gordon is survived by his daughter Helena Macaulay, and is lovingly remembered by his sister Laura Rogers, nieces, Shelane Rogers, Jem Rogers, Avariella (Ava) Rogers, Elle Wilson, and Jennifer Harwood (Scott); nephews, Jeff Rogers and Paul Wilson; and family members Melissa Macaulay, Steven Macaulay, and Sean Macaulay. He is also mourned by numerous friends, cousins, and extended family members across Canada and Australia.

Gord’s horsemanship skills and keen eye lent themselves to his many endeavours. He was a friend to many and a designated driver to all. Gord will be missed by everyone who crossed his path.

“He said, “Son, my road map to heaven

Sometimes leads me out of the way

Through those rodeo towns and those drunkin’ old sundowns

Someday to an early grave”

He pulled his saddle up over his shoulder

He said, “Before you throw dirt on my bones

Hey, tell me what do you do with the broken old cowboy.

Who spend his whole life being thrown”

He said, “Scatter the ashes over the road

Then let the strong wind blow

When I can’t walk away, it’s my time to go”

As per Gordon’s wishes, no formal services will be held.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Gord’s family here.
