It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Ronald “Ron” DesRoches on Friday, April 26, 2024. Ron, passed peacefully at the Dulcina Hospice in Calgary AB, after a short battle with cancer.

Ron was born to Cedric and Dolores DesRoches in Summerside, PEI. He was predeceased by his parents, his baby brother Roger, and his sister Gail.

A cherished husband to Judy DesRoches for nearly 48 years, and father to Heather DesRoches. He is survived by his siblings, Angela Broderick and Michael DesRoches, and far too many nieces and nephews to list, all of who he loved dearly, and they adored their time with “Uncle Ron”.

After leaving PEI, Ron served in the Royal Canadian Navy out of Halifax, NS. He then attended trade school in Calgary, AB, at SAIT, obtaining a business certificate and attending cooking classes, which started his lifelong passion for cooking.

Ron worked for the City of Calgary for over 25 years, retiring in 2005. He was a longstanding member and supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years, and a member of the Alberta Pioneer Auto Club for 25 years.

Ron was known as a charismatic man, easily making friends everywhere he went. An avid animal lover with his passion for horses and dogs, specifically Dalmatians, being a big part of his life. He had a love for travel, fishing, camping and vintage cars. Ron told many great stories about his years working up in the Arctic.

Together, Ron and Judy shared many memorable vacations, Vegas, cruises, and European vacations. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

If friends so desire, in remembrance of Ron’s remarkable life, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion www.legion.ca/donations or to a charity of your choice in his memory.
