Obituary of Amleto Silvio D'Alfonso

April 6, 1934 – Carfizzi, Crotone, Italy

April 27, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Amleto Silvio D’Alfonso; husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Cambridge Manor in Calgary, AB.

Amleto immigrated to Fernie, BC, in 1954 at the age of 20. It was there that he met the love of his life, Luisa Rino. They were married on January 3, 1959, in Fernie, BC, and moved to Calgary to build their new life together. Although he was a dedicated and hard worker, his family, friends, and faith were his guiding light. Amleto loved his family more than life itself. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Whenever asked to lend a helping hand, Dad was first in line. He played an integral role in building the first-ever Italian church, Sant’Andrea, in Inglewood.

Dad received his Red Seal ticket in furniture making in Genoa, Italy, and then his Red Seal carpentry ticket in Calgary. His artisan’s touch can be witnessed throughout various landmarks and buildings in Calgary, such as the Fairmont Palliser Hotel, Martha Cohen Theatre, Banker’s Hall, and numerous restaurants in Calgary and the province.

Besides his loving wife of 65 years, Luisa, Amleto is survived by his daughter Maria (Guido) Rizzuti, daughter Silvia Allan, son Anthony (Nancy) D’Alfonso, grandchildren Franco (Lauren) and Brianna (Frankie) Rizzuti; Alessia (Benjamin) and Katia Allan; Arianna and Tristan D’Alfonso; and sister-in-law Brunina DiLello, all of Calgary. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son-in-law Scott Allan, his parents, Luigi and Maria D’Alfonso; his wife’s parents, Antonio and Maria Rino; his siblings, and in-laws.

We would like to thank the Cambridge Manor-Abbington West staff, especially Dr. Woodhouse and long-time family doctor, Dr. Indu Khosla, for the exceptional care that they provided to our father over the years.

Flowers are respectfully declined. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Brenda Strafford Foundation, 4628 Montgomery Blvd NW, Calgary, AB T3B 0K7, directed to Cambridge Manor at www.thebsf.ca, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 119 14 St NW #100, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6, www.heartandstroke.ca.
