Dear Carrol,
We were so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. We have such fond memories of chatting with Bob over our shared fence in Varsity. We were so lucky to have had you for our neighbours for so many years. We enjoyed Bob’s sense of humour, his intelligence and especially his kindness. One of Bob’s many paintings hangs in my new home and I always remember him fondly when I look upon it.

Dear Carrol,
It is still very sad and hard for me to accept the fact and please accept my heartfelt condolences again for your dear loss.
I ended up in Calgary (happily) because of an admission letter with a scholarship to graduate study at U of C signed by Dr. Loov in 1986. He was also on my Ph.D. examination committee years later.
Of course, I took his concrete structure design course where shear is extensively discussed, as expected. We also worked together as technical committee members on the national standard of CSA A23.3 Design of Concrete Structures where he was very respected for his insightful ideas and practical solutions to complex problems (including shear) as well as his strong drive to eliminate step function where possible.
Throughout the years, he had taught me many things in work and life way beyond concrete designs. I truly consider myself very lucky to have Dr. Loov as a teacher, mentor and friend.

Dear Carrol and Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences. I attended Dr. Loov graduate classes in 1984-1986 during my graduate studies at U of C. He is a distinguished professor and a great person. His approach in teaching civil engineering was exceptional with open mind and great creativity. His kindness, guidance, and influence will last for a long time. Dr Loov will be missed but his great warm memory will always be with us.
Dear Carrol,
We were very sad to hear of Bob’s passing. We have fond memories of the enjoyable times that we spent with the two of you—hiking, taking in concerts, or enjoying a meal together. We enjoyed Bob’s kindness, humour, intelligence, and zest for life. We were impressed with his artistic ability and are the proud owners of one of his bright, cheerful paintings. We will remember Bob as an exemplary university colleague and a cherished friend. We send our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Dr.Loov was by far the best professor I ever had!! He was ingenious in his approach to design and taught myself and many others how to design efficiently and properly. He was also a very kind man that was always willing to listen and help whenever he could. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Sincerely,
Filip Brogowski

Dear Carrol,
My sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Loov. It is hard to believe it has been almost 30 years since I first met him and he graciously agreed to be my PhD supervisor. What followed was 3.5 years of a great working relationship that deeply impacted my academic and professional interests and career at the U of C and beyond. On a personal level, he was always approachable and avaialble to help. His anecdotes about the "problem of shear" still resonate with me, and so I am not surprised that he was still trying to solve it until recently.
He will be remembered by all his students among many others.

It is deeply saddening to learn of Dr. Loov’s passing. He was not only an exceptional professor but also one of the most admirable individuals I have ever had the privilege to meet and learn from. His profound knowledge and passion for teaching were truly inspiring, and his kindness and humility made him a remarkable human being. His departure is a significant loss, and he will be greatly missed.
My condolences, Carrol. Bob leaves an incredible legacy across Canada and internationally. He was an important part of my PhD program and always made time to help everyone who wanted to ask a question or sought out his advice. He will be missed.
Dear Carrol,
I was overtaken by the news of Dr. Loov's passing. This brilliant and true gentleman is kind of a superhero to me. I learned so much from him, greatly enjoyed working with him, and respected him beyond any other of his amazingly brilliant generation of professors at U of C. I was truly lucky to have him as my professor and mentor. He will be greatly missed.
Sincere condolences from Doaa and I.

Dear Carol
Avis and I are sad to learn of Bob’s passing. When he was Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary, I had the pleasure of working with Bob on a regular basis. He was a superb professional engineer and an effective leader. He had a quiet way and a really nice sense of humour. Not only was he one of the founders of the Faculty of Engineering but he was a mentor to generations of students, staff and professors. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Carol and Family, I am saddened by Bob's passing. I, too, worked at ConForce (in the late 60's and early 70's). On many occasions I had the pleasure of calling or meeting with Bob over projects he had worked on as Chief Engineer at ConForce. He mentored me as a younger fellow design engineer. He was always available and helpful in these situations and I unearthed many sound analysises and design solutions from his copious notes in the retained files on those project. Logical, creative, precise, and thorough.
Fond memories.
Don
