Ann Larocque

Obituary of Ann Helen Larocque

July 22, 1936 – Thunder Bay, Ontario

May 1, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Ann Helen Larocque (nee Medwid), of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the age of 87 years.

Ann was born in Thunder Bay, ON, on July 22, 1936. She graduated from the Port Arthur Institute of Technology with a degree in Bookkeeping.

Ann worked across Canada with many different companies, seeing as Canada was one of her priorities. Her last position, which was one of her favourites, was as a foster parent for the Thunder Bay Children’s Aid Society. She was there for many years, and many children had gone through her home. Her favourite age group was infants and toddlers.

She had many adventures travelling across Canada from coast to coast, camping, and exploring. It was a highlight of her summers when she could travel and camp across Canada with her daughter and great-grandchildren, visiting family along the way.

Although travelling was her number one interest, she also enjoyed knitting and sewing. She loved going to the casino and playing the slot machines. Still, her favourite enjoyment was spending time with her family and watching them grow, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ann’s most memorable vacation was when she took a tour around Lake Superior and visited all the local casinos along the way. She often talked about all the places she had been, and had little stories from all of them, reminiscing about all the people she had met and went to visit.

To quote Ann, “I came into this life with nothing and so I leave the same way.” Mom loved life and lived it to her fullest. Oh, the adventures she had!

Ann is survived by her daughter Carolyn Larocque, her four grandchildren, Daneil Dickie (Marie Diange), Ashley-Dawn Dickie, Cassandra Dickie (Scott Larin), and Jordan Kelso; and her seven great-grandchildren, Skyleigh Dickie, Aliyah Dickie, Taylor Dickie, Jacesin Dickie, Sorina Dickie, Malick Dickie, and Wynter Dickie. Ann is also survived by her brother Robert (Bob) Medwid (Ann Carney).

Ann was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Ann (nee Ostaff) Medwid; her two brothers, Peter Medwid and Ronald Medwid; and her son-in-law Keith Dickie.

Ann’s family would like to thank Bethany Didsbury for the wonderful care she received in her short time there. Special thanks to Bethany Airdrie for the wonderful care and attention that was given to her during her last days, both to her and the family.
