Obituary of Shirley Altie Miller

May 7, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

Shirley Miller (nee Tiearney), beloved wife of the late Norman Miller, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 90 years in Calgary, AB.

 

Born in Parson, BC, Shirley attended Banff High School and graduated from there. She was a dedicated secretary for many years at the Catholic School Board and the Post Office. Shirley was also a member of the Anglican Church in her community and spent countless hours volunteering there.

 

An active individual, Shirley enjoyed golfing, skiing, swimming, quilting, sewing, and reading. Shirley was a fierce competitor and won several medals for swimming at the BC Seniors Summer Games. She was also very passionate about shoes and always had the most stylish collection.

 

Some of her most memorable vacations include a transatlantic cruise on the QM2 to England, touring Europe with the Griffiths, cruising the Caribbean with her daughter, Sherry, and visiting Ireland with Sherry. She cherished every moment spent with family and friends.

 

Shirley leaves behind her loving daughters, Sherry Miller, Kathy Joa (Bryan), and Lorie Griffith (Pat). She was a devoted grandmother to Ryan and Danny Fach, Heather Friesen, Leah Griffith, Kristie Joa, and Devon Joa. Her beloved great-grandchildren include Brooklynn, Claire, Ryker, Jaxen, Luke, and baby Maverick. Shirley is also survived by her brother Lafe Tiearney, and her dear cousin Don Roberts, as well as other relatives and friends.

 

She was predeceased by her husband Norman, her parents, Lafe and Annie Tiearney, and her brother Bob.

 

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bow View for their exceptional care and kindness towards Shirley.

 

"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear."

 

Shirley will be remembered for her contagious smile, warm heart, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.

 

Funeral Services will be held at St. James Anglican Church (6351 Ranchview Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
