Obituary of John "Jack" Henry Archer Crooks

John “Jack” Crooks, beloved husband of Sheila Crooks (nee Ringland), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of 76 years.

 

Jack was born in Magherafelt, Northern Ireland on June 6, 1947. In September of 1969, he was wed to Sheila Ringland. They immigrated to Canada in 1974 with their two children. They lived in Oakville and Mississauga ON, before moving to Calgary, AB, in 1982, as a family of five.

 

Jack graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast with a PhD in Civil Engineering. He was a senior partner and employee of Golder Associates for forty years.

 

Besides his loving wife Sheila Crooks, Jack is survived by his daughter Sarah, sons Alan and Brendan; and his daughters-in-law, Portia and Stacey. He found enormous joy in and is survived by his three grandchildren, Hannah, Lachlan, and Avery. He is also survived by his three siblings, Billy, Biss, and Marguerite, all of whom he admired and loved fiercely.

 

Jack’s favourite saying was, “Let me speak words” and he often did.

 

In keeping with Jack’s wishes, there will be no formal service. There will be a Celebration of Jack’s Life in the coming months.
