Obituary of Tim McKechnie

October 21, 1959 – Kindersley, Saskatchewan

May 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Tim McKechnie, a cherished husband, father, friend, and lover of all things mischievous, passed away at home on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the age of 64 years.

Tim lived life to the fullest, never missing an opportunity to put a smile on someone's face, even if it was at their own expense. Whether it was inappropriate nicknames for friends, mooning Jackson through the front window as a “welcome home”, or channelling his inner comedian for Michelle, Tim's antics were the stuff of legend.

His friends and family will remember Tim for his genuinely thoughtful nature, as he was constantly helping others. The world has lost one of the good ones. Tim is watching over all of us, from his appointed star.

Michelle and Jackson would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many rockstars on Tim’s care team, Dean England and Dr. Lyle Galloway at the TBCC; Dr. Ana Maria Oelschig, who always goes above and beyond, Trish, Harry, and Pam at the Sandstone Pharmacy, Mackenzie Lake (you held us up, almost every day); Rick Bedell, Barb Bedell, and Bobbie Jo Docktor, we can only say thank you so many times (and it’s never enough); the staff, volunteers, and participants at Wellspring Alberta (Randy O’Dell House) who carried Michelle through the hardest year of her life; Dr. Jennifer Hughes and all of the incredible nurses at Palliative Care Unit 47.

Tim’s care team also included so many of all of you, Tim’s family, friends, and colleagues, you know who you are. As Tim has often said to each of you, “Live your best life.”

Tim, we know you are watching over us from your star, thank you for being YOU.

Memorial Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Tim’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
