Obituary of Bob Choquette

April 25, 1955 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

May 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Robert “Bob” Choquette, beloved husband of Carla Choquette of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the age of 69 years.

The world became a better place on April 25, 1955, when Bob, the fourth child, was born to Anne (nee Jacek) and Honorius Choquette, in Winnipeg, MB.

Bob began his working career in the grocery retail industry on Vancouver Island. At the time, his brother-in-law Murray worked in Winnipeg in the meat industry and had an opening for Bob, which he happily accepted. He continued to hone his skills and later partnered to open Second To None Meats in 2004. His legacy extended to a Master Butcher and was integral in the rebranding of what is now the Urban Butcher. Bob absolutely loved his occupation. “You can either be a cord cutter, or an artist - someone who has the finesse to turn a chunk of muscle into something beautiful.”

On May 17, 2008, Bob married the love of his life, Carla Schenn. Together they enjoyed hot holidays, playing cards, and beautifully tweaking their property at Dutch Creek, BC. They made many lifelong friends there and he was always the consummate host.

Bob was a kind and generous man. He loved to entertain and could most often be found near his barbecue, or smoker, preparing enough delicious food to feed an army of guests - even if there were only two coming for dinner. Nothing brought him more joy than a great meal with family or friends, followed by a few doubles of Forty Creek or Drambuie.

Bob was also immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, spending many family meals together. His warm heart easily welcomed Carla’s children, and grandchildren, as they seamlessly grew their family.

In February of 2023, Bob was diagnosed with inoperable bile duct cancer. Despite fighting a hard battle, he passed away on May 9, 2024. His big, beautiful smile and strong, enveloping hugs will truly be missed.

Special thanks to all the staff at the Southwood Hospice for their extraordinary care. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carla (Schenn), daughter Elisha (Dwayne) Ennis and her children, Addison and Charlie; son Ryan Choquette, Will (Chanelle) Schenn and their daughter Elsa; Matt (Jenna) Schenn and their children, Cohen, Oliver, and Ellie. He is also survived by his brother Ron, and sisters, Karen (Murray) Moffat and Arlene Choquette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by both of his parents.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Further details will be provided in the future.
