Obituary of Loretta Dorothy Halarewich

May 9, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta
Loretta Dorothy Halarewich (nee Hall) of Cochrane, AB, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 years in the loving presence of her family on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her Hawthorne Residence in Cochrane.
Loretta was born on March 26, 1939, in Cook County, MN, and was the oldest of eleven siblings. After graduating from Falls High School in International Falls, MN, she moved to Winnipeg, MB, where she graduated in 1960 from Nursing at the Misericordia General Hospital School of Nursing. On August 24, 1961, she was united in marriage to Raymond Halarewich in Koochiching County, MN. Loretta and Raymond settled in Yorkton, SK, where they raised their four children.
Loretta was a giving and caring mother; always able to juggle her career, maintain the household, and support her children. In 1990 Loretta moved to Calgary, where she finished her long and successful nursing career. In retirement, she spent her time being ‘Baba’ to her ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and crocheting in her spare time. She was an avid sports enthusiast and a loyal and committed Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Flames fan. She was very social and her numerous family members and friends knew her for her gentle and selfless spirit, as well as her sense of humour.
She leaves to cherish in her memory her four children, daughter Janet (Dave) Hall of Cochrane, AB, and their four children, Kyla, Nolan, Hannah, and Kathryn; daughter Elaine (Melvin) Woloschuk of Wroxton, SK, and their two daughters, Megan and Amy; daughter Sheila (Dean) Beaudry of Cochrane, AB, and their two daughters, Jazmin and Taylor; son Brent (Rhonda) Halarewich of Edmonton, AB, and their two daughters, Johanna and Nikola; as well as her three great-granddaughters, Louise, Adalynne, and Lennie. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Loretta is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Grund of Minnesota, and Christina Pettis of Colorado; brothers, Wally (Vicki) Rye of Columbia Falls, and Melvin Rye of Missoula.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman Hall and Emma Hall (Rye); sisters, Neoma Kern, Marcella Frost, and Waletta Rye; brothers, Dennis Hall, Harry Hall, and Clarence Rye.
Mom will be dearly missed; may her spirit live on in our hearts. Love you forever Mom!
Cremation has already taken place. A Private Celebration of Loretta’s Life will be held at a later date.
