May 16, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Louise Henrietta Forsyth passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, just shy of her 89th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, George, and her parents, Marvel and Ray.

Louise is best remembered for her trailblazing academic career in French Canadian literature and poetry, performing arts, and gender studies, along with her teaching career at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Saskatchewan. Louise loved to travel, speak French, read books and newspapers, and discuss intellectual pursuits with her numerous worldwide colleagues.

Louise will be warmly remembered by her many friends and family, including her children, Brent, Stacy (Ralph), Danielle (Roy), and Wade; her grandchildren, Haydn (Sarah), Cayley (Travis), Riordan (Dan), Rebecca (Reid), Truan (Rochelle), Brodie, and Rylee (Talon); and her great-grandchildren, Hugo, Sloane, Koen, Élodie, and Luca.

Louise was very close to her extended family, especially the Bardahl family members. She was raised in Regina with her many cousins, close to the family farm in Swift Current, SK. From an early age and throughout her life, she loved family gatherings and parties.

Louise actively enjoyed and contributed to the arts, education, and music communities. She participated in, and thoroughly enjoyed, her choir and musical performances.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Staywell Manor for their compassionate care and loving support.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A Celebration of Louise’s Life will be planned for a later date.
