Alastair MacPherson

Obituary of Alastair Duncan MacPherson

April 12, 1960 – Lausanne, Switzerland

May 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Alastair Macpherson, beloved husband of Johanna Archila Cortes, father of Quentin MacPherson, father-in-law of Julia, and grandfather of Romane and Capuccine, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the age of 64 years in Calgary, AB.

Alastair was a great man who we all love and admire; he was very intelligent, honest, and passionate about everything he really loved. He dedicated his life to making many people happy, creating a special world for those of us who were by his side, and for those who were no longer; he continued to see that their lives were going well.

An immensely loving, honest, loyal, and caring being, he was a strong, yet at the same time, a very tender man, a great friend, an excellent confidant, with a simply perfect sense of humor.

He had a deep dedication and passion for what he did, so much so that his knowledge crossed borders. It was always a pleasure to listen to him speak or ask him questions. Since his wisdom was infinite, he could talk for hours on end about any and all topics. He was passionate about photography and good food. This was evident at the times spent with family and friends around a table, where he also showed that he was the best chef in the world, an obsessed coffee tester, a professional eater of cheese in all its presentations, and an impressive wine taster. He was a man with an infinite facility for languages, and a special ability to change the language according to the need.

Alastair was a passionate man left for research, who could spend hours, days, and even months, researching about his Scottish and French ancestry. He also held an incessant interest in knowing everything related to the RMS Lusitania ship, while also collecting and learning everything he could about airplanes, and constantly learning new languages. He took the necessary courses to know everything about vineyards and wines to be able to take tourists to these places and, above all, travel the world tirelessly.

In gratitude for your excellent and kind attention during the time that Alastair was at the facilities of The Salvation Army Agape Hospice, if friends so desire, please consider making a donation to this institution in memory of Alastair MacPherson for Agape Hospice at www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-salvation-army-calgary-agape-hospice/.
