Obituary of Joe Kajakajian

December 4, 1956 - May 12, 2024

Hovsep “Joe” Kajakajian, beloved husband of Martine Peters, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the age of 67 years.

Joe was born in Lebanon, on December 4, 1956. At the age of 16, he immigrated alone to Montreal, Canada, before moving to Calgary, in 1997, as a family of four.

Besides his loving wife Martine Peters, Joe is survived by his five children; Olivia, Ara, and Mardig of Calgary; and Tamar and Ogeni of Montreal.  He is also survived by his three siblings, Nora, Seta, and Jaqueline of Montreal, and his extended family, all of whom he loved.

Joe was a painter in the autobody trade for over 35 years before retiring in 2009, so that he could stay home with his newborn daughter Olivia.  This was his most treasured time.

He had a passion for gardening and took great joy in growing fellow gardeners. He maintained a beautiful yard, and was very proud of his greenhouse and the annual bumper crop of vegetables and fruits the garden produced each year. He also enjoyed being active, walking his beloved miniature poodle Daisy, daily.

Joe was a storyteller and will be most remembered for his numerous tales of adventure and mischief.  He never missed an opportunity to share a story and make someone laugh.

Joe loved the outdoors, fishing, a good meal and wine, travelling, exploring new places, and especially spending time with his family and friends.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the ICU hospital staff at the Peter Lougheed Centre for the care they provided to our beloved Joe, and the support they gave to us during this difficult time.

Graveside Service will be held at the Prairie Sky Cemetery (12800 100 St. S.E., T3S 0A7, Calgary AB) on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 2:30 p.m.
