Obituary of Rupert Richard F Goodhart

October 30, 1944 - England

May 14, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Rupert Goodhart of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 79 years.

Rupert was born in Leeds, England on October 30, 1944. He was very proud to attend the historic Stowe School until 1962. He then went on to graduate from the University of Birmingham in 1966 with a degree in Geophysics.

During his career, he took part in several cave expeditions and became a successful petroleum geophysics consultant and explosives expert. His career took him all over the world, from the Arctic to Libya and Peru, to name a few.

In 1976, Rupert married the love of his life, Lise, in Quebec at L’Église Sainte-Margurite-de-Blairfindie. He had a painting commissioned of the church by artist R.D. Wilson, whose work he admired.

In 1994, Rupert suffered a brain injury due to heavy metal poisoning and could no longer work. He then devoted himself to healing and supporting Lise's career as a massage and Myo-postural therapist.

He will be most remembered for blasting Céline Dion in our home at the most inappropriate times, and his love of organ and traditional church music. We will never forget his exclamations of “Chingao!” every time he stubbed his toes, which happened at least once a day. He loved to travel and take the scenic route. He was a gentle man who suffered much in his life.

Rupert is survived by his son Charles, daughter-in-law Amanda, daughter Geneviève, son-in-law Glen, and his grandson Stuart. He is also survived by his brother Philip, who resides in the UK. Rupert was predeceased by his wife Lise, sister Mary, his mother Muriel, and his father Gerard.
