Obituary of Rita Carloni (nee Poscente)

November 22, 1942 - Terni, Umbria, Italy

May 21, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

 

Rita Carloni (nee Poscente), of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

 

Born in Terni, Italy, on November 22, 1942. After the passing of her father, she moved to Canada when she was eleven years old with her mother and brother. She was an awesome older sister to her siblings, Larry Poscente and Tina Juristy.

 

Rita attended Marvel Hairdressing School and graduated from the Cosmetology program. Rita was a talented and award-winning hairstylist who worked in the industry for 45 years. She took great pride in her hairstyling career.

 

She was a wonderful mother to her four children and her three stepchildren. Rita cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, with good food and all that life had to offer.

 

One of her most memorable vacations was her first trip back to Italy with her mother and brother in the early 1990s to visit her family.

 

Rita had a passion for social media and loved to connect with family and friends from all over the globe. Rita had a lovely home in Haysboro, where she enjoyed socializing with her neighbors, family, and friends. In her younger years, she loved to go dancing with her friends. Her other, hobbies included, baking cakes, crocheting, gardening, watching movies, and storytelling.

 

Rita will always be remembered for her cakes, garlic potato salad, pizza bread, Nonna's grilled cheese, and her strength and character. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

 

Rita loved to make a difference in the community and was an active member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL), she also volunteered with various organizations including CWL, Meals on Wheels, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and Inn from the Cold.

 

Rita will be deeply missed by her husband, Walter Orechow; her son, Lawrence Carloni; her three daughters, Corina (Ray) Obidowski, Murina (Leonard) Krahn, and Surina Carloni; her three stepchildren, Mary-Anne Baier, Rob (Kim) Orechow, Micheal (Lori) Orechow; ten grandchildren, Tonianne, Josh, Justine, Naomi, Darren, Stephen, Ryan, Bec, Tyler,  and Lucas; She is also survived by her sister Tina (Tim) Juristy; sister-in-law, Liz Poscente, her ex-husband, Lawrence Carloni Sr., and her extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Maria and Umberto Poscente, her stepfather, Benedetto Poscente, her brother, Larry Poscente, and her step-grandson, Jesse Dymsky.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. 

 

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Chinook Care Centre, Richards Way, and the staff on Unit 93 at the Rockyview General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
