May 22, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Judy Loewen (nee Krawchuk), beloved wife of David Loewen, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 62 years, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born on May 14, 1962, in Etobicoke, ON, to John and Lillian Krawchuk. Her early years were spent in Toronto, Edmonton, and Knoxville, before settling in Calgary for the remainder of her life.

She graduated from Henry Wisewood High School in 1979 and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BN) from the University of Calgary in 1983. Judy went on to work as a Neonatal ICU, Well-Child, and Immunization Nurse for Alberta Health Services for forty years. She married her husband David in June 2022 and retired in August 2023.

Judy was known for her joy, energy, compassion, and dedication to helping people, with her relationship with Jesus being especially important to her. She was deeply involved in church activities and her community.

She will be remembered for her generous spirit, delightful laughter, zest for life, and the deep love she held for her family and friends. Her absence will be profoundly felt, and her memory will endure forever.

In addition to her husband David, Judy is survived by her children, David Kurtz, Nikole (Graham Brown) Kurtz, Jonathan (Jessica) Kurtz, and Jaclyn (Jacob) Prunier-Smith; and her grandchildren, Nehemiah and Isaiah Prunier-Smith, and Sadie and Troy Kurtz.

She is also survived by her stepchildren, Jaci (Jared) Comeau, John (Lyndsay) Simpson, Chris (Maggie) Peterson, Nick (Carissa Ziegler) Loewen and Kenzie (Jayda) Loewen; her step-grandchildren, Logan Leskiw, and Abigail Peterson; as well as her sister Wendy (Fraser) Wilson and her brother Brent Krawchuk.
