Obituary of Evelyn Louise Selzer

Evelyn Selzer passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 94 years of age in Calgary, AB.

Evelyn was born and raised in Calgary. Growing up in the Rosedale neighbourhood, she attended Balmoral Junior High and Cresent Heights High School. At the University of Manitoba, she studied to be a dietician. After returning to Calgary, Evelyn met her future husband, Edward, while working at a Calgary oil company. In 1955, they married, and together they built their home and raised their family in Calgary.

Evelyn was an avid gardener, tending to her spectacular rock garden that she and Edward built together from what had been a sand hill. Evelyn also enjoyed playing bridge, attending theater and opera in the city, and volunteering. Over the years, she volunteered for many groups, including Calalta Community Figure Skating Club, Skate Canada Volunteer Committee, St. Andrew’s Heights Community Association, Calgary General Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers, Calgary Engineer’s Wives, and at Chief Crowfoot and Queen Elizabeth schools.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Edward, in 2019. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law Carol Selzer, her brother Mervin Nielsen, and her parents, Hans and Elizabeth Nielsen.

Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her children, Murray Selzer and Shelleyanne (Douglas) Hall; and her grandchildren, Grant Selzer, Jennifer Selzer, Chrysta Hall, Mathew (Anu) Hall, and Andrew Hall.

She was the most wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, and she was so proud of her family. Evelyn was a great cook and loved family dinners with everyone gathering together; she was an amazing pie maker and made sure all meals were healthy and delicious.

Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219, 4 St NW, Calgary, AB), on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. to say goodbye and celebrate Evelyn's life.
