Obituary of Venus Yolanda Onespot
“Mama Weaya”
February 6, 1965 - Mînî Thnî, Alberta
May 21, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
We are sad to announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and dear friend on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 59 years.
At the age of 12, Venus started beading and she would go to Banff to sell her creations. In her younger years, Venus worked as a waitress at Chief Chiniki Restaurant and then at the Stoney Nakoda Lodge where she worked at the front desk and the gift shop. She later opened Pinocchio Day Home. When she moved to Calgary she worked at Goodwill.
Venus attended Springbank school in the 1970s and Morley school in the 1980s. She continued her education in 2007 with life skills training in Calgary, AB. She attended Bow Valley College for her general diploma. In 2007 she worked at the Deadman’s Hotel and as a receptionist for Public Works.
She was a “Hockey Mom” to her sons, Neil, Ivan, and Robert, and she was their #1 fan. She enjoyed watching her sons play hockey, attending pow wows and participating in youth rodeo.
Venus was kind, loving, and she always greeted everyone with a smile, a handshake, or even a hug. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Venus is survived by her children, Neil, Ivan, and Robert; her children’s father Darrel Fox, her nine grandchildren, Noah, Tomas, Cory, Lucien, Charlie, Desmond, Luna, Darrell, and Ivan Jr.; her mother Marlene Onespot, sisters, Leslie Onespot and Cleo; her brothers, Aiden (Jennilee) and Derek Bearspaw; her maternal uncle Gerald (Jenny) Clark, and her longtime friends, Ruby Starlight and Jason Olson.
She was predeceased by her father Norman Onespot, her daughter Allison Fox, Norman’s siblings Robert, Grace, Norman, Linda, George (Yvonne), and Ray; paternal grandparents, Edward Onespot and Georgina Goodstoney Soldier; maternal grandparents, Isaiah Powderface and Lucille Lefthand; maternal uncles and aunties, Ted and Catherine Powderface, Johnston and Charlotte Powderface, Fred and Beatrice Powder, Richard Lefthand, Mable Powderface, and David and Joan Cecil; brother Eugene Onespot, and many paternal uncles and aunts.
We apologize if we have missed anyone as she had a large extended family on both her paternal and maternal side, including the Powderface, Onespot, Powder, Clarke, and Daniels families and from Siksika Nation the Weaselchild family.
Wake Services will be held at the Residence of Marlene Onespot (Mînî Thnî, AB), on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 26, 2024. The family will proceed to the Funeral Service on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
