Obituary of Reid W. Olsen

Reid W. Olsen of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

 

He is survived by his daughter Yvonne Woloshyn and her husband Tony, his grandchildren Travis and his wife Christine, Claire and her husband Kenny, and Paul and his wife Samantha; his great-grandchildren, Norah, Maxwell, Stella, and Sawyer; and his special friend Hilda Todesco.

 

He was born in Cardston, AB, on March 23, 1931, to his parents, Raymond and Edra. His wife Hughie passed away in 2008, and he is also predeceased by his brother Keith, and sister Audrey.

 

Reid worked at Gulf Canada for nearly thirty years and was also a semi-pro and amateur baseball coach for Pincher Creek and the Calgary Giants, leading the latter to two provincial championships. As well, he coached Mount Royal College women’s basketball for many years and formed lasting relationships, on and off the court or field, with his players.

 

A Celebration of Reid’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre.
