Obituary of Glen Wardell Parsons
November 3, 1949 - Winnipeg, Manitoba
May 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Glen Parsons was born in Winnipeg, MB, on November 3, 1949. He passed away in Calgary, AB, on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the age of 74 years.
To his family, he was known as “Uncle Ward”. Glen is survived by his sister Michele, his niece Carmen and her husband Calvin, his nephew Alex and his wife Katie, his great-nieces, MJ and Nova; and his great-nephews, Marty, Berenger, and Lochlan.
In his early years, growing up in Calgary, Glen loved riding his motorbike with his friends and checking out stylish-looking cars. These were his interests that would stay with him the rest of his life. Right to the end, he continued to enjoy doing his own oil changes, changing his own brakes, and doing any other maintenance he could handle.
Glen spent a lot of his life battling MS. Although MS stopped him from riding motorcycles and made him too tired to go to auto shows, it couldn’t stop him from reading about vintage bikes and cool cars. MS did limit Glen’s real-world experiences and relationships, but it couldn’t stop him from being curious about people and the world. In fact, Glen created an extensive library, amassing an obscene number of books and videos, and devoured an immense amount of information, on an incredible array of topics.
He was a kind man, who took everyone for who they were without judgment but with genuine curiosity. If you knew Glen, and you shared with him something that you were interested in, you’ll find a section in his library on that subject. He was a devoted uncle who loved his niece and nephew. You can track their interests in his library.
When Glen wasn’t reading, he enjoyed getting lost in a show or a movie with his sister Michele, whom he shared a very strong bond with.
Glen enjoyed spending time with his grandnieces and nephews, sharing in, and encouraging their passions and dreams. Listening to them talk for hours or watching documentaries with them on their favourite topics.
You’ll always be remembered as the cool uncle, who’s doing pretty well for an old fart.
Funeral Services will be held at Limericks Traditional Public House (7304 Macleod Trail, Calgary, AB T2H 0L9) on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
