Obituary of Isabel 'Fern' Hancock

Fern Hancock (nee Jackson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the age of 90 years.
Fern, born at home in the Marwayne, AB, area on February 2, 1934, embarked on a life full of adventure and travel. In the early 1950s, she moved from Wainwright, AB, to Whitehorse, YT, where she worked for the Department of Transportation; after that, she moved to Vancouver, BC, to work for TCA/Air Canada.
In November 1962, Fern married Don and they spent their honeymoon in Barbados before exploring Europe and skiing the slopes of Austria. They resided in Edmonton before relocating to Calgary, following Don’s work. In 1964 Lori joined the family, with Tessa arriving in 1966.
Traveling was a passion for Fern and Don, and they visited countries across Europe, Asia, and Central and South America. Fern was always eager for her next adventure and was known for her genuine curiosity, love for all living creatures, and appreciation for living life to the fullest.
Fern was a generous and welcoming host, opening her home to those in need; whether for work or personal reasons. She offered her support and assistance to family and friends without hesitation.
Fern’s favourite sayings included, “Just because you have a crack in your ass doesn’t mean you have two broken legs”, “Get in, hang on, and shut up,” and “I love you so much!”
Fern is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Lori (Wade), and Tessa (Jim); and her grandchildren, Shelby and Bradley, all residing in Foothills, AB.
Fern is also survived by her sisters, Audrey Propp and Sandra Lee; two sisters-in-law, Linda Jackson and Marilyn Richardson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Fern was predeceased by her loving husband Donald, parents, Isobel and Gordon Jackson; brothers, Mick, Gary, and Roy (Marilyn); and sisters, Sharon (Bill) and Linda (Roger).
Fern was a remarkable woman with a zest for life, a kind heart, and a generous spirit. A hug was always guaranteed whenever you saw Fern.
She will be deeply missed.
