Obituary of Cynthia Valerie Vicky van Sundert

August 10, 1977 – Chicoutimi, Quebec

June 4, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Cynthia Valerie Vicky Van Sundert, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 46 years.

Cynthia was born in Chicoutimi, QC, on August 10, 1977. In 2006, she moved to Calgary with Alicia and Rolf Bertsch.

Proving that it is never too late to pursue greater education, she graduated from Mount Royal University with a degree in Business and obtained her Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Victoria in 2019.

Cynthia married Jim Gibson in 2015 and spent wonderful years travelling the world with Jim and Alicia. She accomplished much throughout her life and was particularly proud of how seeing her daughter grow to be the young woman she is today.

Cynthia and Jim's wedding vows were “Every Thine; Every Mine; Ever Ours” and they lived in that spirit throughout their lives together. She will be most remembered for her Dutch directness, her French-Canadian passion, and her Leo fierceness, and love.

Besides her loving husband, Cynthia is survived by her daughter Alicia. She is also survived by her brother Stephane from Ormstown, QC, and her mother Giselle Vachon from Valleyfield. Cynthia was predeceased by her father Adrien.

Her cancer journey was supported by the best team she could have hoped for. The team at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, her family physician team at Inliv Medical, her prosthetics team at Align Prosthetic, and many others all supported her and the family in so many ways. We are forever grateful.
