Obituary of Antonia Masocco
December 8, 1919 – Sezze, Latina, Italy
June 7, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
The Matriarch of our family, Antonia Masocco, beloved wife of the late Costantino Masocco, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the age of 104 years.
Antonia was born in Sezze, Latina, Italy, on December 8, 1919. She married Costantino Masocco on December 21, 1936, and together they raised four children. The family immigrated to Calgary, arriving on May 10, 1958, seeking a better future. Antonia was a hard worker, often working seven days a week to sustain her family, most of which was at a dry cleaner as a laundry presser.
She was passionate about her garden and greenhouse and loved to share the fruits of her labour with her family. She enjoyed baking her rustic Italian bread that could never be replicated, her traditional Italian biscotti, her famous sponge cake that everyone loved, and preparing simple, delicious meals for her family.
Antonia was a great storyteller, often speaking of the old days and adding humour along the way while captivating her audience. She was strong in her Catholic faith and took comfort in reading her bible. As a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, she participated in pilgrimages with friends, which brought her great joy.
Antonia is survived by her three children, Filomena Noce, Luigi (Maria) Masocco, and Ilva (Carmine) D'Ambola; her son-in-law Franco Driusso, her loving grandchildren, Patrizia Spaziani, Adriana (Alessandro) Spaziani, Dianna (Carlo) Staffa, Claudia (Joe) Laratta, Lisa (Tony) Mungo, Terry Driusso (Julie), Tania (Domenic) Belcastro, Josie Ann (Mark) Hanania, Paola (Tony) Costante; as well as twenty-three great-grandchildren, twenty great-great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Eda Ficaccio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Costantino Masocco, her precious daughter Maria Driusso, son-in-law Italo Noce, grandson-in-law Mario Spaziani, and her great-great-grandson Luca Vaccaro.
Our Matriarch will be remembered for her immense unconditional love for her family.
The family would like to send a tremendous thank-you to Dr. Saeed and to all the staff at AgeCare SkyPointe for the great care and friendship they provided Antonia.
