Obituary of Sydney Francis Coulas

Sydney Coulas, also known as “Papa”, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the age of 84 years.

Sydney was born in Barry's Bay, ON, on March 9, 1940. He moved to Edmonton, AB, in his mid-twenties, where he met and married Darlene on August 9, 1973. They raised their children in Edmonton before later moving to Calgary.

Sydney was a devoted father and grandfather, a passionate sports enthusiast, and a dedicated Edmonton Oilers fan. He was an avid reader with a love for history books and documentaries. Sydney also cherished animals, enjoyed country music, and was known for his lively conversations with everyone he met.

Sydney is survived by his daughter Juanita Renwick and son-in-law Cory Renwick of Calgary, AB; and as his son Jeffrey Coulas of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah of Calgary, AB. Additionally, Sydney leaves behind his brothers, Percy Coulas, Weldon Coulas, and Thomas Coulas; sister Lavina Coulas, as well as several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sydney was predeceased by his wife Darlene Coulas, his sisters, Mildred Coulas and Pauline Coulas; and his brother Jerome Coulas.
