Obituary of Allan Osborne Rowden

May 17, 1947 – York Township, Ontario

June 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Allan Rowden, beloved husband of Maureen Rowden (nee MacKenzie), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the age of 77 years.

Allan was born in East York Township, ON, on May 17, 1947, to Margaret and Harold Rowden. After completing high school, Allan graduated from the Haileybury School of Mines where his work as an underground miner led him to many travels across the country. He later received his Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from Montana Tech.

Early in his career, Allan worked as a bush pilot in Yellowknife, NWT, where he met the love of his life, Maureen, and six months later they were married on Christmas Eve of 1970.

Allan was an avid hockey fan and loved cheering on the Calgary Flames, his son Travis, and his grandsons at the local rink.

Always telling jokes or puns, he will be most remembered for his big heart, his big laugh (and sneezes!), and the quirky ways he told a story. He will be missed.

Allan leaves to mourn his wife of fifty-three years, Maureen, his son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Natasha Rowden; his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Steven Folwell; six grandchildren whom he adored, Reese and Tate Rowden, Cara, Charlie, Christopher, and Colin Folwell, all of Calgary. Allan is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Red May of Calgary, and his sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Ron Tufts of Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Margaret Rowden, and his older brother Michael Rowden.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Allan’s family here.
