Obituary of Terry Symington

October 25, 1939 – Edmonton, Alberta

June 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta


Terry Symington, beloved husband of Janis Symington, of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the age of 84 years.


Terry was born on October 25, 1939, in Edmonton, AB. He attended Eastglen High School and graduated from SAIT as a journeyman electrician. Terry was a dedicated member of Calgary North Hill Lions Club, volunteered with YBC (Youth Bowl Canada) and as a scout leader.


He worked as an electrician, foreman and manager at Comstock before changing careers and becoming the Calgary general manager/Western Canada manager at Panex Tradeshow Services/GES Canada. After his official retirement, Terry continued to work as a courtesy driver at Marlborough Ford for twenty years. He also installed lightning rods with Alec Hunchak and Dodd & Struthers in the 1980s, and managed trade shows and conventions in Calgary with his company EMP LTD.


Outside of work, Terry enjoyed playing football and softball, but his greatest passion was bowling. He became a top five pin bowler in Alberta and competed in many tournaments. Terry also loved camping, fishing, and was a dedicated fan of the Edmonton Elks and Edmonton Oilers. He also treasured his travels to Scotland with his family.


Terry will be most remembered for his kind heart, and dedication to his family and community.


Terry was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Janis Symington; his son Brett (Dawn) Symington; his daughters Shannon (John) Enes, Laurie Chilton, and Adrienne Chilton (Ewen); seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Kay Symington and his father Bob Symington.


As per Terry’s request, there will be no service, and cremation has already taken place. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jane Ballantine for her care and support.
