Obituary of Jayne Margaret Miller

February 7, 1951 – Toronto, Ontario

June 10, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Jayne Margaret Miller (née Mabee), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, of Calgary, AB. She passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the age of 73 years.

Jayne was born on February 7, 1951, in Toronto to Toby and Jean Mabee.  She was one of three children and was predeceased by her brother Glen and survived by her brother David.  Jayne’s love of water and the outdoors began during her childhood vacations at the family’s cottage on Chandos Lake in Ontario. It was there that she acquired a real passion for swimming and water skiing. Helped greatly in this by her ability to float like a cork.

After graduating from Oakridge High School in London, ON, she began a career in the financial services industry.  Her strong work ethic and positive attitude endeared her to her coworkers, many of whom became close friends.

Jayne met her future husband Paul, in 1970, and they fell deeply in love. Their penchant for adventure took the couple on many trips, from coast to coast, across Canada.  They enjoyed planning their travels and always kept their next trip closely on the horizon. Jayne especially enjoyed spending time near the water and loved nothing more than an ocean-side cottage vacation, with long relaxing walks along the beach.  Her favorite was always Chesterman Beach in Tofino.  A testament to their deep bond, compatibility, and friendship, Jayne and Paul recently celebrated a couple of milestones. They celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on May 31st and the 54th anniversary of when they first met, on May 29th.

Jayne and Paul started their working lives in London, ON, where they welcomed their first child, Allison.  After a move to the Okanagan Valley, they welcomed their second child, Cody, followed by their third child, Brieanna, before the family moved to Calgary in 1985.

Jayne had a very keen eye for style and aesthetics that expressed itself most in her garden, her ingenious crafting, and her thoughtfully designed home.  She instilled her creative expression in her daughters and daughter-in-law, who continue to embody Jayne's horticultural and design expertise.

Above anything else, the greatest passion and pleasure in Jayne’s life was her family.  While raising her children she constantly volunteered at their school and sporting activities.  Jayne was a patient listener, which, along with her empathetic and caring nature, provided endless support and guidance to all her children’s endeavours.  Jayne merged her passions for family and design while planning and organizing her children’s weddings and helping to create her grandchildren's nurseries.  With the arrival of her grandchildren, Jayne’s love and support of her closely-knit family expanded to new heights.  She loved spending time at her grandchildren’s sporting events, cheering them on enthusiastically every moment she could.  Her happiest moments were with her family spending time in nature together.  We all enjoyed her amazing home-cooked meals followed by her delicious homemade chocolate cake. The truth is her family and friends just simply enjoyed everything about her!

Jayne is survived by her beloved husband Paul, her children, Allison (Troy), Cody (Leanne), and Brieanna (Tyler); along with her six beautiful grandchildren, Calen, Isabella, Jace, Gavin, Sylas, and Reid.

A Celebration of Jayne’s Life will be held later this summer and announced at a later date.
