Obituary of Ken Muir
June 29, 1945 – St. Boniface, Manitoba
June 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
David Kenneth “Ken” Gawthrop Muir of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the age of 78 years.
Ken was born in St. Boniface, MB, on June 29, 1945, the only child of David Muir and Rev. Frances Laura Muir. After the death of his father in 1951, Ken was raised by his mother and accompanied her on many adventures. Some of his favourite memories include the time they spent in Nelson House, MB, where Laura worked as a teacher.
In 1965, Ken founded Park Ambulance Service Ltd. in Banff National Park to provide local ambulance support for the town. He later developed Park Ambulance into an industrial medical company based in Calgary, which he ran until his retirement in 2011. In 1986, he completed a nursing degree at Mount Royal University. Ken became a member of Hugh Farthing Memorial TVS Branch #52 of the Royal Canadian Legion in 2014, where he leaves behind many friends.
Ken is predeceased by his parents, David and Laura. He is survived by his dear friend and former wife, Sharon, of Calgary, AB, son David of Saskatoon, SK, daughter Angela of Cardiff, UK, and his cousin Mark of Stony Mountain, MB.
Ken will be remembered fondly for his warmth, generosity, compassion, his love of animals and the sea, and his wicked sense of humour. His family would like to extend their thanks to the caring staff of AgeCare SkyPointe, Rockyview Hospital, and Peter Lougheed Centre.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285 (9202 Horton Rd SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 29, 2024, starting at 1:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m. The family will have a private scattering in Banff, AB.
