Obituary of Brian George Arcand
February 23, 1950 – Shaunavon, Saskatchewan
June 14, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
I remember Mom and Dad telling me this story. On February 22, 1950, traveling by horse and sleigh, they followed the railroad tracks on a ten-mile trip from Dollard to Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Dad was quite nervous because Mom was expecting me. The three of us were lucky I was born the next day.
Over my life being guided through snow drifts to being born to two of the most loving, precious parents you could ever imagine. Their guidance gave me a wonderful life.
Growing up and moving forward with life. I moved to Calgary at the age of seventeen and spent forty-four years as a hairstylist running my own business for thirty-seven of those years, winning hair stylist awards and having a wonderful staff and cliental. I was fortunate to work with many talented people, especially my longtime friend and co-worker Tim Francis, who worked with me over thirty-five years. The hair industry allowed me to share my knowledge, to volunteer and to instruct at educational institutions.
Retiring from my place of business in 2011, I continued business as a small landlord. Investments were made over the years to keep life interesting. My hobbies have been interior and exterior design and collecting art from every corner of Canada. My art in hair design inspired my love for all forms of artistic creations.
Over the years I was fortunate to travel much of the world and see how lucky I was to be living in Canada. I was very fortunate to have very special people in my life, my partner and right arm Pam, who has been at my side endlessly, and with our love and care for each other we shared a wonderful life.
My small, loving immediate family reside in Saskatchewan. Brother, Ken and wife Paulette Arcand. Nieces, Michel and her husband Kobus Vermaak, and Terryl and her husband Mark Myers, as well as great-nieces, Meagen, Kayla, and Jenay.
Fighting cancer since 2016 was challenging, with fear and pain. I was fortunate to have the attention of highly respected doctors. My lung surgeon, Dr. Sean McFadden, through two lung surgeries, gave me extra years of life. He and my oncologists and their professional teams provided ongoing screening and knowledgeable support and encouragement.
Going through life we learn so much and some things we learn too late. I learned to not wait till your later years to be thankful for each day and cherish it with much LOVE......
Brian George Arcand
