Obituary of Joyce Derwee

Joyce Derwee of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 72 years.

She was born in Edmonton, AB, on November 15, 1951, to George Derwee (1975) and Jean Woo Derwee (1979).

Joyce graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, with a bachelor’s degree in financial accounting and later earned an MBA. 

She accomplished much throughout her life and enjoyed a successful career with Home Oil in Calgary, AB, later branching out on her own as a successful consulting auditor for Oil and Gas companies and among other industries.  

Joyce loved knitting newborn caps and blankets for the various Calgary hospital maternity wards and creating unique jewelry pieces.   Sometimes, she sold her knitted pieces and beautiful jewelry at Christmas craft shows around the city.    

Joyce enjoyed many vacations travelling and cruising around the world with her brother, his family, and friends. Her travels included Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. The month-long cruise with her brother exploring Asia was particularly memorable and fascinating for her.

Joyce will be most remembered for her kind and generous heart, always volunteering a helping hand. We shall continue to treasure Joyce in our hearts as an amazing, loving, and giving Sister and Aunt, forever and always. 

Joyce is survived by her elder brother Frank, her two nieces, Cynthia (Robert) and Christina (Shane), and two great-nieces, Lily and Jade all residing in Calgary. She is also survived by her great-nephew Justin (Celia) residing in Seattle, WA.  

As per Joyce’s wishes, no formal service will be held.
