June 18, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Frederick Daniel “Dan” Klotz, beloved husband of Doris Mae Klotz (nee Meroniuk), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 90 years. Dan was born in Denzil, SK, on May 20, 1934, the fourth of seven children. He grew up to be quite the athlete, excelling at baseball and hockey.

Dan and Doris married in 1960 and settled in Calgary in 1966. He had a great love of outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing, and later enjoyed camping with Doris upon his retirement from his career as an air traffic controller.

He will be most remembered for his quirky sense of humour, his passion for his family, and being the life of the party.

Besides his loving wife Doris, Dan is survived by his daughters, Shelly (Rob) and Laurie (Rollie); son Warren (Shelley), grandchildren, Alexander, Brendan (Kaitlin), Joseph (Meghan), and Sarah; as well as great-grandchildren, Blake, Bennett and Avery. Dan is also survived by his brother Gerry (Mary) Klotz, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his sisters-in-law, Penny Klotz, Norma Klotz, and Gayla Meroniuk.

Dan was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Klotz; siblings, Mildred Demers, Elmer Klotz, Norman Klotz, Nanette Fritz, and Mel Klotz; in-laws, Mike and Nellie Meroniuk; and brothers-in-law, Allan and Roy Meroniuk.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Unit 31 at the Foothills Medical Centre, especially Dr. Lazarevic, for his patience and empathy with Dan and his family. We also wish to thank the magnificent team at Agape Hospice, where Dan was treated so kindly during his short stay.  Heartfelt gratitude to long-time family friend Gord Lowe, for his visits with Dad, and the love and compassion he has shown our family. Gord has been a huge comfort to us all throughout.

There will be no service as per Dan’s wishes.
