Elaine befriended me when we were in the same Sociology class at the University of Manitoba, in 1952. She told me that playing bridge was a required skill and very patiently taught me to play, even though I nervously bent her cards out of shape. Many years later, Tom and I reconnected with her and John and spent many happy visits chatting and playing bridge. I always appreciated Elaine's wry sense of humour and her intelligent and sensible view on life, and I will miss her very much.
