Condolences
I was the CFO at Maxxam and worked closely with Fred who ran our Oil and Gas business. Fred was incredibly important to Maxxam and was a big part of why we were able to successfully sell our business to Bureau Veritas in 2014. He was very, very smart, funny, a great storyteller, amazing in front of a group or presenting, a tough negotiator, a good businessman with strong business acumen who was always looking for ways to grow the business. In short, Fred was a terrific guy to lead a business and Maxxam, and subsequently Bureau Veritas, benefited a ton from his experience and enthusiasm. On a personal note, I was very sad to hear about his passing at such a young age. He was a great guy who worked hard, contributed much and really deserved to live a happy, retired life with his friends and family. Fred, you'll be missed.
Fred would have been proud of his funeral service, the musical selections, the tributes, the bagpipe…
He was truly one of a kind! Funny, intelligent and always one for an adventure. He left his mark and although he leaves the world far sooner than anyone would have ever wished, his legacy is two fine sons and a strong, loving wife.
My sincere condolences to Kathy, Jordan and Taylor. I grieve with Evelyn, Edna, Carolyne and Corrine. There will never be another one like him and the world is poorer
for it.

I will always remember the warmth of our visits with your family, both at your home and the lake cottage in BC. To be included in your family Christmas celebrations, and our lovely day by the lake at your cottage allowed us to experience the kind, bright, engaging person Fred was. Fred’s smile, pleasant conversation, and insight made us feel welcome and left us feeling happy for his company at the end of the day. His positivity was infectious. It was clear the pleasure he felt while at the cottage was that of a man complete and content in his own space on this earth. I’m grateful to have met him. You and the boys meant so much to him. He will be missed, remembered, and his memory cherished. What more can one hope to leave behind. I’m saddened by your loss, and grateful for your cherished memories.
With love,
Rebecca
Kathy, My deepest condolences for the loss of your husband. I worked closely with Fred at Shawcor and more recently on the Board of Core Linepipe. I have always enjoyed his strong business acumen rooted with passion, pragmatism and optimism at all times. He will be dearly missed.
Kathy, Jordan and Taylor…our entire family is thinking of you as you mourn the loss of Fred. I recall fondly trick or treating with him, and our mutual pals Kent and Garry. My wagon full of liquor made it even a funner night! Karen and Chris
Dear Jordan,
It was with great sadness that I read of the loss of your dear father.
Having had a chance to chat with you at the STS Alumni Dinner, I am certain
your dad was very proud of the fine person you are!
I wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your
family at this difficult time.

I am deeply saddened to hear about my friend Fred's passing. Although our time together was sporadic, we always picked up from where we left off. Each moment was filled with joy, depth, and meaning. Fred's mentorship and friendship profoundly impacted my life, guiding me through professional and business challenges. From our early days together to his invaluable lessons on business acumen and ethics, he helped shape the person I am today. His unwavering support, kindness, and relentless pursuit of excellence inspired me in ways I cannot fully express. It has been an honor and privilege to know him, learn from him, and be mentored by him. I am deeply grateful for every moment we shared. Fred was a true titan in business and in life, and his legacy will forever influence those fortunate enough to have known him.
With heartfelt condolences,
Séan A. Emery
I am so sorry to hear this news. Strength and blessings to all.
I am so sorry for your loss. Fred was one of my favourite cousins. He and I had shared some good times in Vancouver with one of our other cousins, Don. I was also fortunate to take a university class with Fred on women’s lib and feminism. He was never sure how he was enrolled in this class. Fred always made a comment to me about how every thing the instructor was saying was wrong. He said other things to me about this class…I cannot repeat here. He was a generous person with a hearty laugh. He will be missed.
