June 29, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Henderson, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, two days after her 98 birthday.

Helen Orpha Henderson (nee Jordan) was born in Rainier, AB, on June 27, 1926, to Edmund and Leah Jordan. She enjoyed growing up on the family farm with her older sister, Edna, and their good friend and neighbor, Zenith Hrdlicka.

After finishing high school, Helen continued her education at Mount Royal College in Calgary, AB, where she completed secretarial school. She met her husband, G.A. Cecil Henderson in Calgary, marrying on September 28, 1946. She worked for a time with the Alberta Wheat Pool and Lyons Oil Company, and at the family drugstores beside her husband Cec. Together they had three children.

Helen was talented in sewing, knitting, and quilting. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her husband and friends and reading. Helen and Cec enjoyed traveling and went to many countries around the world.

She is survived by son, Russell Henderson (Vicki) and his family of Utah, USA; daughter, Lynn Maruyama (Dean) and family of Lethbridge, AB; her sister, Edna Sears of Brooks, AB; and many nieces and nephews. Helen and Cec had ten grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She recently was blessed with a great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by Cecil, her husband of 67 years, in September 2013, by their oldest daughter, Myrna McDonald (Don) in August 2022, and by son-in-law Don McDonald in October 2023.

Helen resided at Bow View Manor for almost eighteen years. We would like to thank the staff at Bow View for the attention and excellent care they gave to our mother during this time.
