Karl Eggebrecht passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Calgary, AB, at the age of 85 years.
Karl was born on June 12, 1939, in Stettin, Germany. After spending most of his formative years in Germany, he married and moved his family to Calgary in 1964, where he lived out the rest of his life. He worked as a caretaker for over 20 years, following a rewarding career as a painter during the boom years of Calgary's oil industry through to the early 1980s.
Karl's passions included dog breeding and showing, as well as body building. He was proud of his German heritage and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and culture with others.
Karl is survived by his beloved wife of over 25 years, Georgina (Gina) Eggebrecht (nee Dann), and the children from his first marriage, Ute, Siegfried, and Manfred. He was a devoted grandfather to Connor, Kaela, Monika, Lucy, and Jack. He also leaves behind his brothers, Bill and Uwe; and his sister, Irmgard.
Karl's parents, Wilhelm and Anna; as well as his sister, Gisela, predeceased him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mr. Eggebrecht’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Peter Lougheed Hospital, as well as the Dulcina Hospice, and to all who have offered their support during this difficult time.
