Obituary of Lorraine Marion Dell

Lorraine “Rainie” Dell passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long battle with liver cancer on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the age of 73 years.

Rainie is the daughter of Helen (Jimmy) Hutchby (nee Jameson) and Johnny Hutchby and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, friend, and mentor.

Rainie is greatly missed by her children, Trevor and Kirsten Dell; and daughter-in-law, Cherie Dell. She is also loved dearly and missed by her grandchildren, Tahlia, Phoebe, Aidan, and Wyatt Dell.

Lorraine grew up in Killarney and spent many summers out on the farm in Springbank. In her youth, Rainie was very involved with farming, 4-H, and was especially fond of her horses, cats, and all other animals, big or small. She was an active volunteer in the Springbank area and greater Calgary community for many years, devoting countless hours to organizations such as the Girl Guides of Canada, Scouts Canada, Canadian Red Cross, Good Companions, and most recently, the Native Calgarians Society. She will always be remembered as having a great sense of humour, loving her music loud, and always having a kind word to make everyone’s day. She was always willing to help anyone in need without favour or asking for anything in return. She had a zest for adventure, which gave our family many fond memories of several trips camping and travelling throughout western Canada and Midwestern USA. She loved cruising and enjoyed many adventures sailing to various ports in her later years.

As per Lorraine’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a gathering for close family and friends to Celebrate Lorraine’s Life, which will occur in late spring or early summer of 2025 in the Calgary and Canmore area. 

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers or cards, our family encourages you to kindly consider donating to your local SPCA or animal rescue, or any charity of your choice in memory of Lorraine.
