Obituary of Sarah Anne Healey

March 13, 1980 - Sackville, New Brunswick

July 15, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Sarah Anne Healey (nee MacKenzie), beloved wife of Richard Healey, and devoted mother to Mya, Charley, and Timber, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the age of 44 years after a long and bravely fought battle with cancer.

Sarah was born in Sackville, NB, on March 13, 1980, and moved to Calgary, AB, in 1998. Sarah met Rick and they began their married life in April of 2003. Soon after, they grew their family, welcoming Mya in 2003, Charley in 2005, and Timber in 2007.

She was a dedicated blood donor for Canadian Blood Services and a sports mom where she took every opportunity to help or volunteer. A retired athlete herself, Sarah was an organized, loving, and attentive mother who pushed her kids to do their best in sports, school, and life. She loved her children immensely, and always took an active role in their activities.

Sarah was the hardest-working and most dedicated person in any room, known for brightening everyone’s day with her strong wit and remarks. Her brilliance, compassion, empathy, and warmth were matched by none other than the sun itself. Sarah always knew what to say or do at the appropriate time. As loving as she was, Sarah was also known for her stubbornness and was the go-to person for advice on any topic. She might playfully dismiss a situation with a comment like, “Not my monkey, not my circus,” but she would quickly offer earnest advice and ensure that you stayed headstrong and wise, like her. Her favorite saying was often, "You have to pick your battles”, and she certainly lived by her own words, often using colorful language to make her point clear, which both amused and enlightened those around her. Her smile was contagious, and she spoke with her eyes in a way that let you know exactly what she was thinking.

Besides her loving husband, Sarah will be sadly missed by her children, Mya, Charley, and Timber of Calgary, AB; as well as her cherished fur babies, mother Brenda Mackenzie, sister Natasha Mackenzie (Shawn), nieces Jaden, Hayley, and Livia; and great-nephew Elliot, all of Sackville, NB.

Sarah is also survived by her godparents, David and Nancy Purdy of Sackville, NB; as well as uncle Alan (Katrin) of Calgary, AB, aunt Debbie (Leanard) of Harvey, NB, uncle Douglas of Sackville, NB, and several great-aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Sarah was predeceased by her father Glen Mackenzie, grandparents Lysle and Rachel Murray, and Charles and Verna Mackenzie.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. For those attending, the family is encouraging guests to wear purple and pink, Sarah’s favourite colours.
