Lawrence Dudar

Obituary of Lawrence John Dudar

Lawrence Dudar, beloved husband of Sharon Dudar (nee Hepner), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024.

He lived.
He loved.
Was loved.
And now he is in a better place.
When you hear the song “It’s time to say goodbye” think of him.

Lawrence passed away very peacefully with the love of his life by his side, at Rockyview Hospital.

He was predeceased by both his parents, Matt and Sophie Dudar; his younger brother Harry, and other family that were very close to him, including his brothers-in-law, Alex Hepner, Larry McLean, Clifford Ringash, and Ernie Lupul; and his granddog Brady.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 61 years, sons, Dan (Marj) and Darwin (Angie); and his granddog Jessie. He is also survived by his sister Sonjia (Jim) Rurak, and his extended family of Evelyn McLean, Annabelle Ringash, Hilda Lupul, Jean (Tim) Hamm, and Beverley (August) Merke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Architectural Engineering Technology, Lawrence started his career with Automatic Sprinkler in Winnipeg, MB. He never changed companies throughout his 54-year career, although the company name changed, ending with Grinnell. He sat on the CASA (Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association) Board and on the Calgary Construction Association Board.

Lawrence's passions were golf and travel. Over the last 50 years, he had travelled extensively to all parts of the world. He had many family trips and in later years, travelled with his wife and friends. He had golfed on some of the world’s most famous golf courses and enjoyed watching the professionals on TV play the same courses. We are thankful that he had so many great memories.

He always gave his best to any endeavor he undertook.

Lawrence was a very loving husband and the best father his sons could have ever had. His sons gave him two daughters he did not have, making his family complete.

If you were fortunate enough to know him, you know he was the best friend you could ever have, and he would do anything for others.

He was very giving, and his final gift to all was to donate his brain to the Brain Institute at Foothills Hospital, for research in the pursuit of a cure for Alzheimer's.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral, but a private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Have a drink of rum in his honor.

Goodbye Lawrence, rest in peace, we love you.
