Condolences
Dear Bev, Grace and I were very sorry to learn of Manfred’s illness and passing. Manfred was a great boss, a good friend and a fine lawyer. We send our deepest sympathy to you and the family.

I was so sorry to hear of Manfred's passing. I know his last years were an awful challenge due to Parkinson's disease, but I will forever be grateful for the many great years I had the honour to know him and become his friend. I got to know him in 1989 when I began working at the Crown's office and where I eventually worked for him when he was Chief Crown. He was a consummate professional in that role and served on countless provincial committees always taking on that load so that other prosecutors could spend their time in court doing what they loved. He never sought the spotlight and always showed great integrity in everything he did. I was privileged to become one of Manfred's many hiking and lunch buddies in the years when we both worked in Provincial Court Criminal Division. While perhaps most colleagues knew him to be a strict jurist, over many years I got to know the dedicated family man and friend. On hikes and cross-country ski trips, while he was capable of out distancing everyone, without fail he ensured that the slowest person in the group was okay - often taking the pack of others and helping them on steep terrain. I got to see the man who would sled down a snowy slope on a garbage bag too! He introduced me to Sushi, Indian food, and Peter's Drive In was often a lunchtime favourite. Manfred leaves a wonderful legacy of service to the community, to his family and to his friends. May your memories be a constant blessing.
I am very sad that due to my own recent health struggles I am not able to travel from Vancouver Island to be with you at Manfred's memorial service. I just recently completed chemotherapy and while my prognosis for a full recovery is very good, I'm not yet strong enough to make the trip. My heart will be with you all on Saturday.
This is a sad day for the legal community and for the Calgary Prosecutions Office. His Honour Judge Delong was always a gentleman in Court and always knew the law. Condolences to his family. Peter Mackenzie, K.C. Calgary Prosecutions Office.
Thank you Manfred you were a great colleague and leader. On one occasion you guided me and some of our friends up the mountain to spend the night at the Bow Hunt. We have been away from the court for years but I remember you My Friend. Bill Pepler
My heart goes out to you, Bev, as well as to your whole family. May you find moments of peace and comfort as you celebrate your beloved Manfred and all he meant to so many.

I am a retired member of the Calgary Police Service, and I spent mny a morning in a bed beside Manfred at the Canadian Red Cross while it was situated in Lower Mt Royal. We shared stroies about just about everything you can imagine. He was joy to talk to and was knowledgeable on almost all subjects we talked about. After I was just short of 500 donations, I was aflicted with Onset Diabetes, and they refused my blood from then on.
We connected again later after I retired and he was a judge, on a missing children case. The abducting father was arrested, and the child remained missing. Manfred incarcerated the man until he arranged to have the child returned, which was eventually done. Landmark case for Parental abductions.
He was a good person, and an even better member of the courts. I was very sorry to see his passing. Proud to call him my friend.
RIP my friend, you will be missed by more than just your loved ones.
